Capital of the Médoc wine region located on the left bank of the Gironde, the Pauillac appellation includes 18 classified grands crus, including 3 first grands crus: Château Latour, Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Mouton Rothschild.
Combining tannic power and finesse, these wines have an excellent aging potential. Pauillac is indeed not a wine to be drunk young; it is deserved, and to fully appreciate it, one must be patient.
The main grape varieties are cabernet sauvignon followed by merlot. To a lesser extent, cabernet franc and petit verdot are also used.
The greatest vintages of the appellation are: 2010, 2009, 2005, 2003, 2000, 1996, 1995, 1990, 1986, 1970, 1961, 1959.
