Founded in 1918 by the Mascarello family, the winery became legendary thanks to Bartolo Mascarello (1927–2005), an iconic figure of traditional Barolo winemaking. Since 2005, his daughter Maria Teresa has continued his legacy by remaining more faithful than ever to the ancestral style.

Philosophy & Winemaking

  • A single Barolo cuvée: a blend of fruits from four terroirs (Cannubi, San Lorenzo, Rué, Rocche) co-fermented together to ensure balance and harmony.

  • Traditional methods: extended fermentations (30 to 50 days) in cement or wood vats without temperature control, capello sommerso, long macerations.

  • Long aging: about 3 years in neutral Slavonian oak vats, followed by at least 1 year in bottle before release.

  • Strong opposition to the use of new wood (barriques) – firmly rooted in tradition.

Iconic Cuvées

  • Barolo (Barolo DOCG): signature wine, combining depth, floral elegance, tannic finesse, minerality, both supple and intense.

  • Langhe Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, Freisa: expressive regional wines, more accessible, perfect for young consumption but always in the Mascarello style.

Wine Style

Mascarello Barolo embodies the purity, finesse, and authenticity of Nebbiolo, with notes of red fruits, flowers, spices, vibrant acidity, silky tannins, and remarkable aging potential (20-30 years). It is celebrated for its consistency and fidelity to the terroir, in a respectful approach, non-ostentatious but imbued with depth.
