Absolute nobility, voluptuousness of Merlot and exceptional expression of the terroir
A true legend of Pomerol, Château Pétrus is an iconic wine, produced on approximately 11 hectares of clay-limestone gravel. Owned by the Moueix family since 1969, the estate is now passionately and precisely managed by Éric Moueix, accompanied by a high-caliber technical team. Pétrus embodies the quintessence of Bordeaux Merlot.
Unique and parcel-based terroir
Planted on a very dense blue clay soil, Pétrus benefits from a rare micro-terroir, ensuring phenomenal concentration. The estate is planted 100% with Merlot, from vines over 45 years old on average, at high density (≈10,000 vines/ha).
Subtle viticulture
Parcel-based implementation, controlled grassing, manual harvesting, and extremely rigorous sorting. The reasoned approach respects the soil's water balance and aims to optimize aromatic maturity without losing freshness.
Majestic vinification & aging
Vinification in thermo-regulated concrete vats, with long macerations (3 to 4 weeks) and gentle extraction. Aging lasts 18 to 20 months in French barrels (≈80% new wood), accompanied by cuvage in amphoras and foudres to preserve the purity of the fruit.
Mythical style & cuvée
Château Pétrus: dark robe, captivating nose of black plum, truffle, licorice, cocoa, graphite, and floral notes. The palate offers a creamy, deep texture with elegant tension, polished tannins, and a long, flavorful finish. It reaches complex maturity from 10 years and can elegantly evolve for 30 to 60 years.
