Sicily is the largest vineyard in Italy by area, with approximately 140,000 hectares, or 17% (1999 figures) of the Italian vineyard, ahead of Apulia and Veneto. If we were to compare it to a French region, it would be similar to the Languedoc-Roussillon region. Indeed, like the latter, it has been working for many years to enhance their terroir and produce great quality wines.
