Domaine Georges Roumier – Tradition, precision, and exceptional terroirs
Domaine Georges Roumier is one of the most emblematic estates in Burgundy, based in Chambolle-Musigny. Founded in 1924, it was patiently built by Georges Roumier, before being passed on to his son Jean-Marie, and then to his grandson Christophe Roumier, who now runs the estate with absolute rigor.
The estate cultivates about 11 hectares of vines, including several legendary plots such as Bonnes-Mares, Musigny, Les Amoureuses, and Corton-Charlemagne. These climates, of rare nobility, are worked with a spirit of total respect for the terroir. The cultivation is reasoned, with fine attention paid to each vine, without herbicides or insecticides. The yields are deliberately low to favor concentration and purity of the fruit.
The winemaking is conducted with extreme precision. Christophe Roumier favors manual harvesting, rigorous sorting, and gentle vinification, without harsh extractions. Fermentations take place in wooden or concrete vats, with a variable proportion of whole bunches depending on the vintage and the plot. The aging, long (16 to 18 months), takes place in oak barrels, with a moderate proportion of new wood (up to 30% for the grands crus).
The wines of the estate are renowned for their elegance, structural finesse, length on the palate, and exceptional aging potential. The Chambolle-Musigny stands out for its floral delicacy, while Bonnes-Mares reveals a chiseled power, and Musigny, an unmatched depth and complexity.
