The wine region of the Vaud country is divided into four sub-regions. La Côte stretches in the western part of the Lake Geneva basin, from Morges to Nyon. The Lavaux region is located between Lausanne and Vevey-Montreux. It includes the most famous vineyard of the canton, the Dézaley, whose terraces overlooking the lake cling to the steep slopes, located between Epesses and St Saphorin. The vineyard stretches on the right bank of the Rhône between Villeneuve and Bex. And finally, the north of the Vaud country groups the appellations Bonvillars, Côtes de l'Orbe, and Vully on the shores of Lake Morat.

The Vaud vineyard ranks second among Swiss wine regions and produces a quarter of Swiss wines. It is distinguished above all by its fresh and fruity white wines from the Chasselas grape variety, whose finesse of multiple aromas reflects the great diversity of soils. The red wines, from the Gamay and Pinot Noir grape varieties, represent about a quarter of the production. The long wine-growing tradition of Vaud dates back to the Dézaley vineyards cultivated since the Middle Ages by Cistercian monks.
