Tokay is a legendary wine for 400 years. Only champagne has sparked as many anecdotes. The story tells how the sumptuous Tokay aszù, made from botrytized grapes, was produced for the first time not by chance but methodically. This makes Tokay the first wine to have been produced from grapes affected by "noble rot".
The sugar content is still expressed today in "puttonyos" ranging up to 6 puttonyos (150 g/l of sugar and an aging of 3 years). There is also Tokay "Eszencia", the most opulent of Tokays, so sweet that it does not ferment. Its fragrance lingers in the mouth like incense.
Hungary's second wine is furmint, crafted like a chardonnay. It is an intense, fragrant, and generously mineral dry wine.
