It is not always easy to choose a wine with the multitude of different terroirs, the fame of one appellation compared to another, the reputation of the estate...
It is therefore useful to be able to rely on a criterion that is certainly subjective but can guide your choice in case of doubt, the rating given by wine experts.
So search for your wines according to their rating. This indicator generally reflects the intrinsic quality of the wine.
For Robert Parker, all wines, rated out of 100, automatically receive 50 points, regardless of their quality.
Then the appearance is rated out of 5, the nose out of 15, the palate out of 20, and the overall level of quality and aging potential out of 10.
Robert Parker then classifies the tasted wines into five categories:
- exceptional (96-100),
- excellent (90-95),
- above average to very good (80-89),
- average (70-79),
- below average to unacceptable (50-69)
