The wines of Clos des Lambrays are very expressive of red fruit in their youth: strawberry, raspberry, and morello cherry with some floral notes of rose. Over time, one will find tertiary aromas of undergrowth, licorice, and baked apple.
Regarding food and wine pairing, it is advisable to favor wines simply roasted or with a fine sauce like a Charolais steak with chanterelles.
Clos des Lambrays was divided among 74 different owners during the Revolution of 1789. Starting from 1868, the reunification of the Clos gradually took place. Today, there are two producers of Clos des Lambrays: Domaine des Lambrays and Domaine Taupenot-Merme.
Domaine des Lambrays, which was acquired by the LVMH group, has a near monopoly with 8.66 hectares out of the 8.70 of the Grand Cru. The production of Domaine Taupenot-Merme is minimal with about 300 bottles per year, making this cru very rare and very difficult to find.
Some additional information:
Annual production: 35,000 bottles;
Peak: 10 years after the vintage;
Area: 8ha 83 ares.
