Domaine Pierre Usseglio — Controlled power in Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Domaine Pierre Usseglio et Fils is a cornerstone of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Established in the 1940s by an Italian immigrant, the estate is now run by brothers Thierry and Jean-Pierre Usseglio, who continue the family legacy with dedication and skill.

The domaine farms around 20 hectares of vineyards, many of which are old vines — some over 100 years old — planted on Châteauneuf’s finest terroirs: galets roulés of La Crau, sandy soils, and red clay. Farming is certified organic, and vineyard work is meticulous and hands-on.

Philosophy and winemaking

Usseglio balances tradition and precision. Grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted. Fermentations are done by grape variety, with partial destemming depending on the vintage. Extraction is gentle yet focused, and aging is tailored to each cuvée — in concrete tanks, foudres, or demi-muids, with limited use of new oak.

The aim is to harness the natural generosity of the region while preserving freshness and elegance.

Wine style

Pierre Usseglio wines are bold, velvety, and impeccably balanced. The reds show deep Southern Rhône character — black fruit, herbs, spice, and leather — but always with structure, polish, and lift. The top cuvées rival the region’s best, with great aging potential.

The whites are rare, gastronomic wines, combining floral richness and surprising salinity.

Signature cuvées

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tradition – A classic blend: deep, generous, and beautifully balanced.

Réserve des Deux Frères – A powerful, age-worthy wine from selected plots. Intense and complex.

Cuvée de Mon Aïeul – Old-vine Grenache at its finest: pure, elegant, and concentrated. A cult classic.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc – Rich and floral, yet mineral. A food-friendly Rhône white.

A dependable estate with strong character
