Domaine Jean Tardy – Vosne-Romanée in all its subtlety

Located in Vosne-Romanée, the Domaine Jean Tardy is one of those discreet but highly respected estates that embody the classic finesse of the Côte de Nuits. Founded by Jean Tardy in the 1960s, the estate was taken over in the 2000s by his son Guillaume Tardy, who today signs the wines with a style that is both precise, modern, and deeply respectful of the terroir.

The vineyard covers about 5 hectares, spread between regional appellations, villages, and some superb premier crus in Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, and Nuits-Saint-Georges. This mosaic of plots allows for a fine reading of the climates, with very rigorous parcel-based vinification.

The vineyard management is reasoned, with a very careful approach to the vine: regular plowing, manual harvesting, selective sorting, and a real concern to preserve the freshness of the fruit. Guillaume Tardy seeks a just maturity, without excess, in order to preserve the natural balance between fruit, acidity, and structure.

In the cellar, the vinification is delicate and measured: partial or total destemming depending on the vintage, gentle fermentations with light punch-downs, then aging in oak barrels for 12 to 16 months, with limited new wood (15 to 30%) to never mask the wine's profile. The goal is always to highlight the finesse of Pinot Noir and the purity of the terroirs.

The house style is distinguished by a silky texture, elegant aromas of fresh red fruits, floral notes (violet, peony), and a structure that is present but never dominant. These are wines of harmony, charming when young but capable of aging very well, especially in the best climates.

Iconic cuvées:

  • Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru “Les Chaumes” – floral, refined, satin mouthfeel.

  • Chambolle-Musigny “Les Athets” – airy, red fruits, great elegance.

  • Nuits-Saint-Georges “Bas de Combe” – more earthy, fine tannins, savory finish.

  • Fixin “La Place” – lively, structured, black fruits.

  • Bourgogne Pinot Noir – excellent value for money, pure and crunchy.
