Domaine Saint Préfert — The radiance of Châteauneuf reimagined
Located in the southern sector of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine Saint Préfert has become one of the most admired estates in the Southern Rhône. Originally established in the 1930s, the domaine has risen to prominence under Isabel Ferrando, who took over in 2002 after a career in finance.
Farming is certified organic and rooted in a biodynamic philosophy, with deep respect for terroir and vintage. The result: wines of purity, power, and luminous elegance.
Philosophy and winemaking
Ferrando’s approach is both intuitive and exacting. All grapes are harvested by hand, with low yields and careful selection.
-
Partial or full destemming, vintage-dependent
-
Gentle fermentations in concrete or stainless steel
-
Aging in a mix of neutral vessels: foudres, demi-muids, tanks, sometimes amphorae
Minimal new oak is used — the goal is always transparency and balance, never makeup.
Wine style
Saint Préfert wines combine southern richness with unexpected lift. The reds are intense yet graceful, with notes of ripe red fruit, dried herbs, floral spice, and polished tannins. They are expressive young but built to age beautifully.
Single-site cuvées like “Charles Giraud” and “Auguste Favier” show depth, energy, and haunting finesse, year after year.
Signature cuvées
Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tradition – A pure, vibrant blend showing freshness and charm.
Réserve Auguste Favier – Grenache-dominant, floral and silky. Seductive and refined.
Collection Charles Giraud – Bold, layered, cellar-worthy. One of the Rhône’s top reds.
F601 – 100% Grenache with no added sulfites. Radical clarity.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc – Rare and textured, with a saline core. Based on Clairette and Roussanne.
A radiant voice in the Southern Rhône
Under Isabel Ferrando’s visionary leadership, Saint Préfert has become a standard-bearer for modern Châteauneuf-du-Pape: wines of soul, power, and precision, that remain unmistakably Mediterranean, yet light on their feet. A domaine to follow, vintage after vintage.
