The archetype of Médoc, power and finesse combined

Located in the heart of Saint-Julien, Château Léoville-Las-Cases is an iconic Second Cru Classé. Since the 19th century, this cru has belonged to the Delon family, currently represented by Frédéric & Bernard Delon, long supported by Valérie Lavigne (technical director) and the oenological team dedicated to the site.

Terroir & grape varieties

The estate covers 95 hectares of fine gravel on sand and clay, with a varied subsoil (marl, limestone). The traditional Bordeaux grape varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon (~60%), Merlot (~35%), complemented by small proportions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, providing power, elegance, and aging potential.

Philosophy & winemaking

Sustainable and parcel-based viticulture, partial manual harvesting, and strict sorting. Parcel-based vinification in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats, followed by aging for 18 to 24 months in French barrels, about 70% new, for a dense, racy, and harmonious style. The methods combine tradition and innovation, with meticulous work at each stage.

Iconic cuvées

  • Château Léoville-Las-Cases: the Grand Vin, robust, structured, and fine, with noble tannins and graphic depth. Aromas of red and black fruits, cedar, graphite, and spices.

  • Le Petit Lion de Las Cases: second wine, more accessible and gourmet, expressing finesse, freshness, and pure fruit.

  • Trois Domaines: a cuvée born from additional parcels, fruitier and ready to drink earlier.
