Étienne & Alix de Montille — Purity & Precision in Burgundy
Located in Volnay, the Domaine de Montille is one of Burgundy’s most respected and enduring names. Known for its minimalist, terroir-driven approach, the estate has long championed elegance over power, with a deep respect for tradition and nature.
Since the 1990s, Étienne de Montille has led the domaine, joined by his sister Alix, who oversaw white winemaking with great finesse until 2020.
Philosophy and Production
The estate practices organic and biodynamic viticulture, aiming for balance and life in the vineyard. Winemaking is low-intervention: hand-harvesting, partial destemming, native yeasts, aging in barrels (limited new oak).
Alix brought the same energy and precision to the whites as Étienne to the reds — both guided by a pursuit of purity and transparency.
Wine Style
The reds (Pinot Noir) are refined and tense, favoring structure and length over power. Expect aromas of red berries, floral notes, forest floor, and subtle spice — with fine tannins and remarkable poise.
The whites (Chardonnay) are vibrant and mineral, marked by citrus, wet stone, and a linear structure that speaks of place.
