A historic name, a timeless style

Among the great names of the Médoc, Château Talbot holds a special place: that of consistency, quiet nobility, a Saint-Julien that combines controlled power and aromatic finesse. Classified as a Fourth Grand Cru in 1855, the estate takes its name from John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury and Governor of Aquitaine, defeated at the Battle of Castillon in 1453.

Owned by the Cordier family since 1918, the château is now brilliantly managed by Nancy Bignon-Cordier, who continues the family work by infusing modernity, precision, and qualitative ambition.

A homogeneous terroir in the heart of the Médoc

The vineyard of Château Talbot extends over approximately 110 hectares in one piece, making it one of the largest classified growths in the Médoc. It rests on deep gravel characteristic of Saint-Julien, benefiting from excellent natural drainage. The grape variety reflects Médoc tradition: predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and a hint of Petit Verdot.

A pure, accessible style, built for aging

The wines of Talbot are distinguished by their balance, charm, and aging potential. They offer aromas of blackcurrant, cedar, violet, with silky tannins and a straight but never austere structure. It is a classic and refined Saint-Julien, which appeals to both collectors and Bordeaux enthusiasts ready to discover a great wine without waiting 20 years.

Iconic cuvées

  • Château Talbot: The estate's grand wine. A racy, elegant Saint-Julien, remarkably consistent vintage after vintage.

  • Connétable Talbot: The second wine, accessible younger, all finesse and suppleness, a faithful reflection of its elder.

  • Caillou Blanc: A rare Bordeaux white from old Sauvignon and Sémillon vines. Tense, mineral, subtle, and floral.

A philosophy of precision and consistency

In the vineyard as in the cellar, Château Talbot favors a parcel-based approach, gentle and careful vinification, and aging adapted to each lot, in order to preserve the purity of the fruit and the finesse of the tannins. The ultra-modern gravity-fed vat room, recently inaugurated, marks a new era for the estate, where innovation serves tradition.
