Domaine René Rostaing — Precision and poise in Northern Rhône
Based in Ampuis, at the heart of Côte-Rôtie, Domaine René Rostaing is one of the region’s most respected names. Inheriting vineyards from two legendary families — Alfred Rostaing and Marius Gentaz — René created a domaine of exceptional pedigree, with holdings in La Landonne, Côte Blonde, and other top sites.
Since 2015, his son Pierre Rostaing has taken over, refining the house style with a steady hand, focusing on purity, restraint, and terroir expression.
Philosophy and winemaking
Viticulture is sustainable and meticulous, with all work done by hand on steep terraces. Grapes are partially or fully whole-cluster fermented, depending on the vintage and cuvée.
Fermentations are native, with gentle extractions. Aging takes place in oak barrels and demi-muids, using minimal new oak (never more than 15%). The goal: to let the vineyard speak, with minimal interference.
Wine style
Rostaing wines are known for their clarity, structure, and finesse. The Côte-Rôties are floral and spicy, showing violet, black fruit, smoky minerality, and silky tannins. They are approachable in youth, but gain remarkable depth with age.
The estate also produces a rare, high-altitude Condrieu, focused and fresh, far from the overripe style sometimes seen in the appellation.
Signature cuvées
Côte-Rôtie Ampodium – A blend from multiple plots. Elegant, vibrant, and finely textured.
Côte-Rôtie La Landonne – Deep, muscular, structured. A powerful, long-aging wine.
Côte-Rôtie Côte Blonde – Rare and delicate. Floral lift, finesse, and subtle complexity.
Condrieu La Bonnette – Pure Viognier from granite soils. Floral, bright, and precise.
