Domaine Défayes-Crettenand – Leytron, Valais (Switzerland)
The soul of Valais in every bottle, between family tradition and indigenous grape varieties.
A family estate rooted in Leytron
Since 1965, Domaine Défayes-Crettenand has embodied a winemaking tradition deeply connected to the Valais terroir. Located in Leytron, an emblematic village of the Swiss vineyard, the estate is now managed by Stéphane Défayes and his son François, who continue a demanding vision of wine, passed down from generation to generation.
An alpine terroir with a strong identity
The 6 hectares of vines are planted on the gravelly soils of Leytron and the terraces of Saillon. Generous sun exposure, low rainfall, and significant temperature variation allow for optimal ripening of grape varieties, especially indigenous ones.
An artisanal and committed winemaking
Manual harvesting, careful sorting, vinification by grape variety, and controlled aging: each wine is the result of precise work, respectful of the fruit and the identity of each plot. The philosophy of the estate: let the place speak first.
Wine style
The reds are powerful, expressive, yet always elegant. Black fruits, spices, mineral freshness, and soft tannins characterize them. The whites offer floral, saline, and straightforward profiles, with typically alpine energy.
Iconic cuvées
Humagne Rouge: wine of character, ample and spicy.
Cornalin: great finesse, depth, and Valais typicity.
Petite Arvine: tense white, saline, with lemon notes.
Syrah: structure, freshness, and great drinkability.
Humagne Blanc: floral rarity, delicacy on the palate.
