Domaine de la Vieille Julienne – The Pure Intensity of Châteauneuf-du-Pape

A Family History and a Spirit of Elevation

Founded at the beginning of the 20th century, the Domaine de la Vieille Julienne took a decisive turn in 1990 with the arrival of Jean-Paul Daumen. Visionary and demanding, he converted the vineyards to biodynamics in the late 1990s, seeking the purity of the fruit and the transparency of the terroir.

An Exceptional Vineyard, Rooted in the North of the Appellation

The estate has 10 ha in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and 5 ha in Côtes-du-Rhône, with hillside plots often planted with old Grenache vines (up to 100 years). Sandy soils, red clays, and rolled pebbles offer an intense and vertical profile.

Grape Varieties:

  • Grenache as the majority,

  • complemented by Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, and some old whites.

A Sincere and Demanding Biodynamic Viticulture

Entirely manual work, very low yields, no herbicides, biodynamic preparations, harvesting at perfect maturity, rigorous sorting. An artisanal and rigorous approach in the cellar: whole harvests, long macerations, indigenous yeasts, and prolonged aging in foudres or demi-muids.

House Style: Concentration, Purity, Verticality

The wines of the estate are powerful yet precise, endowed with a deep texture, very pure fruit, and a structuring minerality. The balance is sought between density and freshness, without excessive woody makeup.

Iconic Cuvées

  • Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieille Julienne: classic cuvée, intense and long, great aging potential.

  • Réservée: strict selection of the oldest vines, abyssal depth, monumental.

  • Les Trois Sources: high-end Côtes-du-Rhône, very expressive and vibrant.

  • Lieu-Dit Clavin: plot-based in Côtes-du-Rhône appellation, remarkable finesse.
