Located in Elciego, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, Bodegas Murua is part of the prestigious Masaveu Bodegas group, which also owns estates in Galicia, Castile, and Asturias. Murua combines a traditional interpretation of Rioja with a contemporary demand, driven by technical rigor and respect for natural balances.

The technical team, led with discretion and precision, seeks refined, elegant, and sustainable wines, where wood never dominates the fruit. Murua is committed to environmentally friendly viticulture and local heritage, with particular attention to parcel selection and mastery of aging.

Terroir & vinification

The estate-owned vineyards cover about 80 hectares, spread around Elciego, on clay-limestone soils at altitude (400–550 meters). These cool, well-drained terroirs, combined with a temperate Atlantic climate, are ideal for fine expressions of Tempranillo, as well as Graciano, Mazuelo, and local white grape varieties.

Vinification is based on long and natural fermentations, with indigenous yeasts, and aging in French and American oak barrels, measured to preserve freshness and aromatic complexity.

Iconic cuvées

  • Murua Reserva: the estate's signature, a supple and harmonious Tempranillo, perfectly balanced.

  • Murua VS: parcel selection on old vines, deeper, racy, structured for aging.

  • Murua Blanco Fermentado en Barrica: Viura aged in barrels, a broad and elegant white, of great finesse.

  • M de Murua: a rare, confidential cuvée, from the best terroirs and the oldest vines of the estate.
