Vintages

Founded in 1948 by Mario Antoniolo, the Azienda Agricola Antoniolo is an iconic family-owned estate in Gattinara, in Upper Piedmont. Today, under the leadership of Alberto and Lorella Antoniolo, the estate is unanimously recognized as the great name of northern Nebbiolo, contrary to the more opulent expressions of Barolo or Barbaresco.

Terroir & philosophy

Unlike the more clay-limestone Langhe terroirs, Gattinara is based on volcanic and iron-rich soils, giving the wines a mineral tension, a racy structure, and exceptional aging potential. The vines are managed according to non-certified organic practices, with a focus on the sincere expression of the grape variety and its place of origin.

The Antoniolo family is dedicated to enhancing the historic crus of Gattinara, with rigorous parcel work and a long-term vision of the wines' evolution.

Vinification & style

The vinifications are traditional yet precise: long macerations, indigenous yeasts, fermentation in concrete or stainless steel tanks, followed by prolonged aging in large oak casks. No woody makeup, no artifice: here, Nebbiolo expresses itself with straightforwardness, depth, and salinity.

The Antoniolo style is distinguished by a vibrant freshness, ripe yet present tannins, and an aromatic purity that evolves beautifully over time.

Iconic cuvées

  • Gattinara DOCG: the classic, harmonious, and slender cuvée, a perfect introduction to the Antoniolo style.

  • Gattinara “Osso San Grato”: the estate's emblematic cru, intense, spicy, with a mineral backbone.

  • Gattinara “San Francesco”: more delicate and floral, with a chiseled tension.

  • Gattinara “Le Castelle”: a powerful and deep cuvée, with a dense and earthy framework.

  • Juvenia Nebbiolo: a youthful wine, charming and immediate, perfect for discovering the grape variety in its most accessible version.
