The absolute enigma of Pomerol, between rigor, grace, and silence
Located on the Pomerol plateau, a few steps from Petrus, Château Lafleur remains a unique estate, both mythical and mysterious. Managed by Baptiste Guinaudeau and his wife Julie Guinaudeau, heirs of Jacques and Sylvie Guinaudeau, the estate embodies an inimitable style, the result of extreme demand and a discreet, artisanal, and parcel-based approach.
Terroir & grape varieties
The vineyard extends over 4.5 hectares of a complex terroir, between clayey gravel, sand, and Günz pebbles. This unique soil allows for a singular expression of the grape/place combination. The atypical grape composition is almost equal between Merlot (~50%) and Bouchet (local Cabernet Franc, ~50%), a deliberate choice to create wines that are both deep, luminous, and of exceptional longevity.
Philosophy & practices
The work at Lafleur is driven by a clear vision: to produce a living wine that speaks more of the place than of the style. Gentle and precise vinifications, long aging adapted to the vintage, total respect for the grape, without embellishment. Each plot is individually monitored, each vine is known, each decision is carefully considered. Here, silence is a form of rigor.
Iconic cuvées
Château Lafleur: The estate's grand wine, rare, profound, built on the tension between the density of Merlot and the nobility of Cabernet Franc. Aromas of violet, warm stone, black fruits, graphite, racy tannins, majestic length.
Les Pensées de Lafleur: A second wine in its own right, from another central plot of the estate. More accessible when young, but shares the Lafleur DNA.
Les Champs Libres (at Grand-Village): pure Sauvignon blanc, vinified like a Burgundy cru, with remarkable precision.
