An innovative winemaker, heir to a prestigious past
Château Dauzac, classified as a Grand Cru of Margaux in 1855, has flourished since 2013 under the direction of the Bignon-Cordier family. Located on the first gravelly hills, the estate is experiencing an oenological renaissance blending terroir, ecology, and creativity, with a focus on precision and elegant fruit expression.
Terroir & grape varieties: gravity of the gravel and finesse of the plantings
The vineyard, divided into 55 hectares, rests on fine and deep gravel. The blend consists of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc, planted at high density with vines averaging 35 years old. This combination offers a fine balance between tannic structure, elegance, and aromatic purity.
Viticulture & philosophy: virtuous innovation
Château Dauzac is a pioneer in adopting sustainable technologies: cover cropping, precision agriculture, fine parcel observation, use of drones, and millimeter-precise vine management. Harvesting is done manually with successive sorting, with extreme rigor in berry selection.
Vinification & aging: tech-savvy elegance
Vinifications are carefully conducted in thermoregulated stainless steel, wood, and concrete vats, with gentle pump-overs and long maceration (3–4 weeks). Aging lasts 12 to 18 months in French barrels (50% new), according to parcel signatures. The goal: to combine racy expression and technical modernity.
Iconic cuvées
Château Dauzac: the grand wine, fine and racy, with aromas of blackcurrant, graphite, white pepper, and fine vanilla. Structured, balanced palate, supple tannins, and saline finish.
Jean-Baptiste de Dauzac: a more accessible second wine, fruity and balanced, perfect for the early years.
EN D-Vieilles Vignes: a short series from old plots, complex, rich, and expressive wine.
White Dauzac: a rare second production in white on Sauvignon and Sémillon, fresh and lemony.
