Vintages

In the heart of Monforte d’Alba, the birthplace of the most structured Barolos, the Diego Conterno estate embodies a pure, sincere, and luminous vision of Nebbiolo. Heir to a great Piedmontese winemaking lineage, Diego Conterno has been forging his own path since the early 2000s: that of a Barolo of truth, without artifice, born from respect for life and time.

A story of transmission and independence

From the famous Conterno family (founders of Conterno Fantino), Diego decided in 2000 to create his own estate, starting with a few hectares of family vineyards on the heights of Monforte d’Alba. Very quickly, he asserted his style: organic, precise, human. Since 2010, the estate has been certified in organic farming.

Today, he is supported by his son Stefano, perpetuating an artisanal philosophy based on simplicity, transparency, and humility.

Powerful terroirs, revealed with delicacy

The estate's vineyards are mainly located in the commune of Monforte, whose marl-limestone soils and altitudes offer Barolos with a firm structure, but also with a subtle aromatic brilliance. The estate notably owns plots in the Ginestra cru, renowned for its deep and slender wines.

A gentle vinification, focused on the expression of the grape variety

The harvest is manual, with careful sorting. Fermentations take place in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts, without addition or correction. Macerations are long but gentle, with very little intervention. Aging is done in large traditional casks, in a Burgundian spirit: letting the wine breathe, without forcing it.

A precise, vibrant, timeless style

Diego Conterno's wines are distinguished by their straightness, their natural balance, and their aromatic purity. The Barolos are taut, without excess wood or over-extraction. The fruit is luminous, the tannins are firm but civilized. These are wines for intelligent aging, deep, but never demonstrative.

Iconic cuvées

  • Barolo “Ginestra”: prestigious cru. Noble structure, mineral tension, remarkable longevity.

  • Barolo (blend of several plots): very typical Monforte. Sincere wine, accessible, with clear fruitiness.

  • Langhe Nebbiolo: young, crunchy, floral. A pure introduction to Nebbiolo.

  • Barbera d’Alba: juicy, lively, without heaviness. Discreet aging.

  • Dolcetto d’Alba: immediate charm, black fruit, savory freshness.

A philosophy of respect and discretion

At Diego Conterno, everything is done with a light hand, in a logic of transparency and patience. No showiness, no technological wine: only the pleasure of the real, for enthusiasts who love Nebbiolo for what it is – a grape variety of light, depth, and slow emotion.
