Domaine Giovanni Rosso – The Racy Power of Serralunga d’Alba

The Domaine Giovanni Rosso is located in Serralunga d’Alba, at the heart of the most austere and structured terroir of the Barolo appellation. Since the 1990s, it has been Davide Rosso, Giovanni's son, who has been leading the estate with passion and precision. Under his direction, the estate has risen among the most respected in the region, combining Piedmontese tradition with contemporary rigor.

The vineyard covers a dozen hectares, exclusively in Nebbiolo, on prestigious crus such as La Serra, Cerretta, Vigna Rionda, and Broglio. These marl-limestone terroirs, with steep slopes, offer deep, vertical wines with a marked mineral expression.

Cultivation and Winemaking Methods

The vines are cultivated using sustainable agriculture, with soil work, treatments reduced to the strict minimum, and manual harvesting. Each plot is vinified separately to respect its identity. The vinifications are traditional, with long macerations (30 to 60 days) and spontaneous fermentations. Aging is done in large Slavonian oak casks, sometimes up to 36 months, depending on the crus and vintages.

Giovanni Rosso's Barolos are renowned for their racy tannic structure, straightness, and aromatic finesse. They often require a few years of aging to reveal their full complexity.

In recent years, Davide Rosso has also been developing a range in Etna (Sicily), with the same philosophy of respecting volcanic terroirs and the Nerello Mascalese grape variety.
