Perched in the high-altitude village of Vergne, within the Barolo commune, G.D. Vajra is one of Piedmont’s most soulful and precise wine producers. Family-run for three generations, this artisanal estate brings together finesse, purity, and authenticity in wines that speak with both clarity and emotion.
A family story rooted in passion
Founded in the 1970s by Aldo Vajra, a visionary ahead of his time, the estate is now led by his children Giuseppe, Francesca, and Isidoro Vajra, who carry forward a philosophy of deeply respectful viticulture and terroir-driven expression.
Altitude, light, and clarity
The Vajra vineyards are among the highest in Barolo, reaching over 400 meters. The cooler nights and significant diurnal shifts preserve aromatic precision and tannin finesse. Marly-limestone soils in sites like Bricco delle Viole, Coste di Rose, and Ravera allow for a stunning expression not only of Nebbiolo, but also Dolcetto, Barbera, Freisa, and even Riesling.
Thoughtful, honest winemaking
Hand-harvested grapes are gently vinified with native yeasts, long macerations, and careful pump-overs. Ageing occurs in large, neutral oak casks, preserving freshness and verticality. Everything here is crafted with restraint, care, and precision.
A style of elegance and expression
G.D. Vajra wines are known for their brightness, detail, and harmony. They don’t overwhelm — they reveal. The Barolo Bricco delle Viole, in particular, has become a benchmark for grace and aromatic depth.

A philosophy of humility and precision
At Vajra, greatness comes from quiet dedication. The vineyards are farmed like gardens, with organic methods (uncertified but rigorous), and the wines are made to reflect their origin – with no ego, just soul.
