Dirupi is a renowned winery in the Valtellina region of Lombardy, Italy, founded by two passionate young winemakers, Cédric and Matteo, in 2004. The name "Dirupi" refers to the steep slopes ("dirupi" in Italian) of the terraced vineyards typical of this region, where the vines are cultivated on steep terrain, requiring manual harvesting and intensive labor.

Characteristics of Dirupi Estate:

  • Philosophy: Dirupi is distinguished by its artisanal and environmentally respectful approach, promoting sustainable viticulture and minimalist winemaking to fully express the unique terroir of Valtellina.
  • Vineyards: The estate owns about 7 hectares of vines spread over several plots located in the Valtellina Superiore DOCG areas, notably in the sub-zones of Grumello, Sassella, and Inferno.
  • Grape Varieties: Nebbiolo, locally called Chiavennasca, is the main grape variety cultivated by Dirupi. They primarily produce elegant and complex red wines.
  • Winemaking: Dirupi favors a traditional approach with spontaneous fermentations and aging in oak barrels of different sizes to enhance the natural characteristics of the grapes.

Main Wines:

  • Valtellina Superiore DOCG Grumello Riserva: A complex and refined Nebbiolo wine, aged to develop deep aromas of dark fruits, spices, and a well-integrated tannic structure.
  • Rosso di Valtellina DOC: A more accessible red wine, highlighting notes of fresh red fruits, perfect for more immediate consumption.
  • Inferno DOCG: Coming from the "Inferno" sub-zone, this wine offers an intense and concentrated expression of Nebbiolo, with spicy notes and a lively acidity.

Dirupi is appreciated by wine enthusiasts for its commitment to quality and authenticity, producing wines that capture the essence of Nebbiolo and the Valtellina terroir.
