An elegant vintage reinvented by the modern vision of the Merlaut family
Owned by the Merlaut family since 1983, Château La Lagune is now managed by Éric Merlaut, assisted by Anne Dubreuil, chief oenologist, and Laurent Fortin, technical director. Their ambition: to combine the refinement of a grand cru with a contemporary expression full of energy and precision.

Terroir & grape varieties: excellent gravel and classic Médoc alliance
The estate covers 82 ha of deep Garonne gravel, facing south, offering excellent drainage. The typical blend consists of Cabernet Sauvignon (~60%), Merlot (~30%), Petit Verdot (~8%), and Cabernet Franc (~2%), for a balance between structure, fruit, and elegance.

Viticulture & philosophy: authenticity, parcel-based approach, and sustainability
Sustainable viticulture, soil work, and controlled grass cover. Manual harvesting with strict sorting in green and at harvest. Each parcel is vinified separately to preserve the identity and aromatic richness of each terroir.

Vinification & aging: precision, concentration, and woody elegance
Parcel-based vinification in thermoregulated stainless steel vats, macerations of 3 to 4 weeks, moderate punch-downs. Aging for 16 to 18 months in French barrels (≈ 50% new), to sculpt a silky tannic structure while preserving freshness and liveliness.

Iconic cuvées
Château La Lagune (Grand Vin): deep ruby color; aromas of blackcurrant, cedar, fine spices, and violet; structured palate, silky tannins, and saline finish combining gathered power and elegant tension.
L’Esquisse de La Lagune (second wine): more accessible, gourmet, and fruity, with beautiful tension, to be enjoyed young while maintaining great elegance.
