Founded in 1976 by four Roman families, Castello di Ama has become a leader in Chianti Classico thanks to Marco Pallanti, who joined in 1982, and Lorenza Sebasti, CEO since 1988. They positioned the estate among the first to highlight the concept of cru, with plots like Bellavista, San Lorenzo, La Casuccia, and Bertinga. Their visionary work introduced Merlot as a single cru (L’Apparita was born in 1985).

Philosophy & Practices

Castello di Ama combines biodynamics, parcel quality, native fermentations, precise aging, and certified sustainable viticulture. The goal: both power, finesse, balance, and uniqueness of each cru. Oenology is guided by the constant interaction between nature, art, and science.

Terroirs & Estate

The estate covers 75 ha of vineyards planted at 430–520 m altitude, spread over four valleys around the Ama castle (Gaiole in Chianti). High-density vines (5,500 plants/ha), terraces, and optimal exposures ensure maturity, acidity, and typicity.

Iconic Wines

  • Chianti Classico “Ama”: a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, all in finesse.

  • Gran Selezione San Lorenzo, Bellavista, La Casuccia, Bertinga: parcel expressions of each cru.

  • L’Apparita: 100% Merlot from the Bellavista cru, powerful and long, ranked among the best Merlots in the world.

  • Tre Bianchi, Réserve Montebuoni, as well as limited editions enrich the range.

Wine Style

The estate's wines are both intense, elegant, structured, and fresh. Sangiovese offers tension and precision, Merlot brings silkiness and depth. The signature? A subtle alliance between choral personality and expression of the place.
