Second Grand Cru Classé en 1855, Château Léoville Poyferré is one of the undisputed jewels of Saint-Julien. Combining the power of Médoc with a rare sensuality of texture, this emblematic estate embodies the profound elegance of the great terroirs of the left bank. It appeals to both traditional enthusiasts and aesthetes seeking emotion.
A story of transmission and rebirth
Originating from the division of the vast Léoville estate at the beginning of the 19th century, Léoville Poyferré has been owned by the Cuvelier family, historical merchants from the north of France, since 1920. Under the leadership of Didier Cuvelier, and now Sara Lecompte Cuvelier, the estate has experienced a spectacular rise in precision and recognition, becoming a true modern reference in Bordeaux.
A terroir of noble gravel at the heart of Saint-Julien
The 60 hectares of vines are rooted in a soil of deep Garonne gravel, laid on a clay-sandy subsoil that imparts power, freshness, and tension to the wines. The grape variety, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, is complemented by Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, depending on the parcels.
High-precision viticulture
The estate practices sustainable viticulture, with parcel work, moderate plowing, controlled grass cover, and manual harvesting with table sorting. The approach is based on an intimate knowledge of each parcel and the constant search for optimal maturity, especially phenolic, for always refined tannins.
Vinification combining tradition and high technology
The vinifications are carried out in thermoregulated stainless steel vats, with precise management of extractions. The lots are vinified separately, then aged for 18 to 20 months in French oak barrels (80% new), with traditional racking by gravity. Each vintage aims for the most faithful expression of the cru, with extreme care given to balance.
An opulent, precise, always harmonious style
Léoville Poyferré seduces with its velvety texture, its rich aromatic palette (blackcurrant, violet, cedar, dark chocolate), and its long and fresh finish. It is a wine that combines structure and charm, crafted for aging but accessible in its youth thanks to a unique silky signature in the appellation.
Iconic cuvées

Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré: elegant second wine, perfect from 5–6 years.

A philosophy of rigor and hospitality
At Léoville Poyferré, hospitality, transparency, and the pursuit of excellence go hand in hand. The Cuvelier family ensures to reconcile Bordeaux heritage and contemporary demands, in an approach that is both respectful, ambitious, and deeply human.
