The discreet elegance of the Pomerol plateau, shaped by a committed family
Since 2016, Julie Clément, a talented oenologist, has been leading the vinifications under the expert eye of Jean Clément, a visionary winemaker and five generations of the Clément family at the helm of the estate. Together, they cultivate the balance between respect for the terroir and refined expression of Merlot.
Terroir & grape varieties: sand, gravel, and balance
The vineyard extends over approximately 18 ha, nestled in the heart of the Pomerol plateau. Perfectly drained clay-sandy soils, with a gravelly-profiled register. Typical Pomerol blend: predominantly Merlot (~90%), complemented by a bit of Cabernet Franc (~10%).
Viticulture & philosophy: sustainable elegance
Practices in sustainable agriculture, manual harvesting, selective sorting with care for each bunch. Assertion of a controlled low yield to concentrate the expression of the fruit and the freshness of the terroir, vintage after vintage.
Vinification & aging: elegant generosity
Vinification in stainless steel or concrete vats, with moderate macerations (3 to 4 weeks) and delicate pump-overs. Aging for 16 to 20 months in French barrels (50% new), depending on the cuvée, favoring the roundness of the fruit and the fine structure.
Iconic cuvées
Château de Sales: great elegant wine, aromas of black cherry, plum, fine woodiness, mineral touch. Silky tannins and long saline finish.
L’Invitation de Sales: fresh and accessible second wine, nicely fruity, picked for immediate enjoyment.
Château de Sales Blanc (occasional): rare white in Côtes de Pomerol, blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, lively acidity and mineral freshness.
