The quintessence of Barsac, elegance and indulgence
Château Coutet is one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in Barsac, dating back to the 12th century. Rooted in the tradition of characterful sweet wines, it is now passionately managed by the de Bethmann family, embodying a perfect balance between heritage, terroir, and contemporary ambition.

Terroir & grape varieties: the alchemy of botrytis
The 38-hectare vineyard stretches over clay-sand-gravel terraces, exposed on the foothills of the Garonne and the Ciron. This terroir promotes the formation of botrytis cinerea. The grape varieties consist mainly of Sémillon (90%), complemented by Sauvignon Blanc (5%) and a bit of Muscadelle (5%), offering richness, freshness, and complexity.

Viticulture & philosophy: living tradition
Château Coutet practices careful and sustainable viticulture: partial grass cover, integrated pest management, and manual harvesting in several passes, ensuring the picking of grapes with high botrytized maturity, concentrated and aromatic.

Vinification & aging: the art of sweet wine
The grapes affected by noble rot are gently pressed. Fermentation is natural, in French oak barrels, with aging for 18 to 24 months. The dosage is traditional, in order to preserve the style, freshness, and typicity of Barsac.
