Contemporary renaissance, refined elegance, and mineral expression
Located on approximately 16 ha in a single block, Château Ripeau adjoins the prestigious terroirs of Cheval Blanc and La Dominique. Owned by the Loubat family since 1917, then acquired in a new era by the Grégoire brothers in 2014, it is now driven by an approach combining tradition and modernity, with manual harvesting, sophisticated aging, and sustainable viticulture.
The sandy-gravelly soils mixed with clay and limestone, supported by a cool microclimate, favor the fine expression of the terroir. The classic blend combines Merlot (~65%), Cabernet Franc (~30%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (~5%), with a planting density of ≈6,666 vines/ha.
Since 2017, the estate has been moving towards autonomy in cultivation and adheres to sustainable management. Parcel-based vinification is carried out in stainless steel tanks, with malolactic fermentation in barrels. The aging, lasting 12 to 16 months, is done in French oak barrels, sometimes 100% new depending on the parcels.
Château Ripeau (Grand Vin): dark color, aromas of cherry and dark fruits, spicy and mineral nuances. The palate is velvety, balanced, with polished tannins and a beautiful length; ideally enjoyed between 5 and 18 years.
Tour de Ripeau (formerly La Garenne) is the second wine, more accessible, made from young vines and secondary selections.
