Historical majesty, pure elegance, and sublimated expression of the terroir

Founded in 1141, Clos de Tart is one of the ten grands crus of Côte d’Or cultivated as a monopoly. It covers 7.5 hectares of vines on a carefully managed clay-limestone terroir, whose history is linked to centuries of viticultural passion. Acquired in 2017 by the Mommessin family, the estate has enhanced its prestige through respectful viticulture and delicate winemaking combining tradition and modernity.

Terroir & grape variety

Complex soil of white marl and marl-limestone clay, southeast exposure, conferring finesse and tension to the grapes. The planting is exclusively Pinot Noir, with vines aged between 40 and 80 years.

Viticulture & winemaking

100% manual harvesting, precise plot selection. Slow fermentations with temperature control in open or thermo-regulated wooden vats. Aging for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels (≈60% new wood), ensuring depth, structure, and elegance without excessive vanilla.

Style & aging

The wine offers a deep garnet color, an intense bouquet of red fruits, undergrowth, fine spices, and floral accents. The palate is airy, slender, with silky tannins and a long incisive finish. This grand cru is ideally enjoyed after 8 to 12 years, with a potential of 30 to 40 years depending on the vintage.

Iconic cuvées

  • Clos de Tart – grand cru with enchanting singularity, complex, with controlled tension.

  • Clos de Tart Grand Cru (verticals capsules) – plot and vintage variations, witnesses to the diversity of internal climates.
