Domaine des Comtes Lafon – Between Tradition, Vision, and Mastery of Great Whites

One of the Absolute References of Meursault

The Domaine des Comtes Lafon, founded in 1869, is a historical and emblematic figure of Meursault. Under the leadership of Dominique Lafon, who headed the estate from 1984 to 2022, the estate initiated a major qualitative revolution: conversion to biodynamics as early as 1998, parcel-based vinifications, and constant attention to the balance between richness and tension.

Since 2022, the direction has been taken over by his daughter Léa Lafon, embodying the new generation with a vision of continuity and openness.

An Exceptional Wine Heritage

The estate operates about 15 hectares, mainly in whites on Meursault and reds on Volnay, with mythical terroirs:

  • Meursault 1er Cru Charmes, Perrières, Genevrières, Goutte d’Or

  • Meursault Clos de la Barre (monopoly)

  • Volnay Santenots-du-Milieu (1er Cru)

  • Monthelie, Monthélie-Duresses

  • Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champgains

  • Grand Cru Le Montrachet (in micro-ownership)

Demanding Viticulture and Measured Vinification

Strict biodynamics, manual plowing, no herbicides, harvest at full maturity. In the cellar, fermentation is long, aging extends over 18 to 22 months in barrels (about 20–30% new), and racking is minimal. The balance is sought between the natural opulence of Meursault wines and mineral tension.

Wine Style

The whites are deep, generous, but never heavy. They combine fat, amplitude, vertical acidity, with remarkable aging potential. The reds, often underestimated, express a pure fruit, a velvety texture, and increasing finesse over recent vintages.

Iconic Cuvées & Faces

  • Meursault Clos de la Barre: immediate finesse, crystalline precision.

  • Meursault Charmes & Genevrières: more charming, round, floral.

  • Meursault Perrières: salinity, verticality, very great potential.

  • Volnay Santenots-du-Milieu: racy, structured, one of the best reds of the estate.

  • Montrachet Grand Cru: absolute rarity, majestic, for great occasions.
