Château Bellevue Mondotte is one of the smallest but also one of the most prestigious estates in Saint-Émilion. Located on the limestone plateau east of the village, it covers only 2.5 hectares. This micro-cru was acquired in 2001 by Gérard Perse, also the owner of Angélus and Pavie, with the aim of making it an ultra-pure expression of the limestone terroir.
Terroir and viticulture
The vineyard is planted at a high density on poor, limestone soils. The grape variety is dominated by Merlot (90%), accompanied by Cabernet Franc (5%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%). The average age of the vines is over 50 years. Viticulture follows rigorous principles: manual harvesting, very low yields, strict plot selection.
Vinification and aging
The vinification is conducted with extreme precision by the Angélus technical team, under the supervision of Gérard Perse and with the advice of the oenologist Michel Rolland. The aging lasts 24 to 30 months in 100% new barrels, with lees stirring, to give rise to a wine of rare concentration and texture.
Iconic cuvée
Château Bellevue Mondotte: a dense, deep wine, built for aging, but with rare mineral finesse. It combines the power of Merlot with the saline freshness of limestone. The vintages 2005, 2009, 2016, 2018, and 2020 are among the most remarkable.
