A family passion, orchestrated by the Miailhe family
Founded in 1942 by Paul-Louis Miailhe, Château Gloria is now led by Christian Miailhe, his son, and his wife Josiane, supported by their daughter Laurence Miailhe, who is in charge of the vineyard and communication, as well as the oenologist Xavier Maréchal. Together, they pursue a philosophy of consistent quality, inherited from the original vision.
Terroir & grape varieties: finesse of gravel and typically Médoc profile
The vineyard covers about 50 ha of Garonne gravel mixed with deep sands, offering optimal drainage and complete maturity. The blend is typical of the Médoc: Cabernet Sauvignon (~60%), Merlot (~35%), Petit Verdot (~5%), with a high planting density to promote concentration and elegance.
Viticulture & philosophy: balance, nature, and rigor
Conducted in sustainable agriculture, controlled grassing, careful pruning. The harvest is manual, sorted by plot and by whole grapes. The estate combines finesse and power with more room for the expression of the terroir, gradually reducing inputs.
Vinification & aging: controlled power and woody elegance
Fermentation in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats by plot, with macerations of 3 to 4 weeks and pump-overs adapted to the profile of the vintage. Aging for 14 to 16 months in French barrels (≈50% new), depending on the cuvées, to structure without masking the fruity freshness.
Iconic cuvées
– Château Gloria: a great balanced wine, with aromas of blackcurrant, cedar, graphite, and fine spices. Supple and elegant tannins, saline and persistent finish.
– La Chapelle de Gloria: accessible second wine, softer, fruity, and ready to drink young, while retaining the identity of the terroir.
