Domaine Huet – The Great Loire Classicism at Its Peak
Located in Vouvray, on the right bank of the Loire, Domaine Huet is one of the most renowned names in Chenin Blanc worldwide. Founded in 1928, it has established itself over the decades as an absolute reference, capable of producing both vibrant dry wines and sweet wines with very long aging potential.
Today, the estate is managed by Jean-Bernard Berthomé, the historical cellar master and trusted confidant of the family, supported by a loyal team. For many years, the vineyard has been cultivated using strict biodynamics, a committed choice aimed at expressing the purity of the terroirs without artifice.
The estate covers about 30 hectares, spread over three major historical clos with distinct identities:
Le Haut-Lieu, on deep clays, produces generous and supple wines.
Le Mont, more stony, produces tense, vertical, chiseled wines.
Clos du Bourg, on very lean limestone soils, offers structure, straightness, and longevity.
The grapes are harvested by hand, with several successive selections when botrytis is present. In the cellar, vinifications are natural and minimally interventionist, in stainless steel tanks or demi-muids, depending on the profile of the cuvée. Fermentations can be long, and the wines are never chaptalized.
The great strength of the estate is mastering all styles of Chenin: dry, semi-dry, sweet, and liqueur-like, with a style that is always clear, energetic, never showy. Their aging potential is exceptional: some vintages exceed 50 years without losing freshness.
Iconic Cuvées:
Vouvray Sec “Le Mont”: mineral, tense, vibrant.
Vouvray Demi-Sec “Clos du Bourg”: yellow fruit, volume, balance.
Vouvray Moelleux “Le Haut-Lieu”: ample, honey, candied fruits.
Vouvray Moelleux 1ère Trie: fine botrytis, very long aging potential.
Vouvray Petillant Brut: delicate, pure, based on Chenin.
