Passion of a pioneer, old-vine prestige, and pure expression of terroir

Founded in 1990 by Roman Bratasiuk, Clarendon Hills has become a pioneer of single-vineyard varietal wines in Australia. Located in Clarendon, in the heart of McLaren Vale, the estate values century-old, dry, and low-yielding vines. Driven by precision and the quest for the perfect gesture, each cuvée is a unique interpretation of its place of origin.

Terroir & grape varieties

The vineyards, from plots located between 300 and 400 meters in altitude, rest on varied soils (sand, gravel, iron), often planted since 1920. The estate works with several grape varieties: Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Mourvèdre, from old and non-irrigated vines.

Viticulture & winemaking

Manual harvesting, natural fermentation in small batches, careful aging of 18 months in French oak barrels. Bratasiuk adopts an artisanal approach where each variety and each plot are vinified separately, in order to express the uniqueness of their origin to the fullest.

Style & aging

The wines are concentrated, elegant, with fine tannins, oscillating between notes of black fruits, spices, graphite, and smoke. Astralis, its cult wine, embodies the pinnacle of expressiveness: dense, harmonious, with an aging potential of 20 to 30 years, sometimes more. The other cuvées (Piggott, Hickinbotham, Brookman, Romas) each reveal a different facet of the local climate, always in great stylistic coherence.

Iconic cuvées

  • Astralis (Syrah): flagship cuvée, supreme expression of the place and the grape variety.

  • Piggott Range, Hickinbotham, Brookman (Syrah/Cabernet): wines from distinct terroirs, intense and nuanced.

  • Romas (Grenache): purity of old Grenache, spicy charm, and finesse.

  • Blewitt Springs Grenache, Sandown Cabernet Sauvignon: micro-parcels rich in character.
