A Grand Cru Classé steeped in history and nobility

Located in the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation, Château Léoville Barton embodies the purest soul of the Médoc: that of great wines for aging, racy and timeless. Classified as a Second Grand Cru during the famous 1855 classification, the estate stands out for its exemplary consistency and noble style, unchanged for nearly two centuries.

Owned by the Barton family since 1826, Léoville Barton is one of the few classified growths still owned by the same family since that time. Today, it is Lilian Barton Sartorius and her children, Damien and Mélanie Barton, who perpetuate this heritage with passion and rigor.

An exceptional terroir with Médoc precision

The 50-hectare vineyard rests on a soil of deep Garonne gravel, typical of Saint-Julien, with excellent drainage and perfect adaptation to Cabernet Sauvignon, the king grape variety of the estate. The grape composition (74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc) reflects the resolutely Médoc orientation of the property.

Vinifications are carried out with millimetric precision in thermoregulated stainless steel vats, then the wines are aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new. No compromise is made on the selection of plots or barrels.

A classic, straight, and harmonious style

Léoville Barton produces wines of great pedigree, combining power, freshness, and balance. In their youth, the aromas of blackcurrant, graphite, licorice, cedar dominate, supported by a fine but firm tannic structure. Over time, the wine develops a striking aromatic complexity and a velvety texture. It is an authentic Saint-Julien, crafted for aging, but accessible in great vintages from 10 to 15 years.

The emblematic cuvées

  • Château Léoville Barton: The grand wine, from the finest plots, magnifies the Médoc terroir in a straight, deep, and unadorned style.

  • La Réserve de Léoville Barton: The second wine of the château, more supple and accessible when young, but made with the same rigor as its elder.

A philosophy of tradition and truth

At Léoville Barton, tradition is not fixed, it is alive. The estate combines respect for the past with discreet modernization. Everything is done to preserve the identity of the cru, its natural straightness, and its legendary longevity. The approach remains artisanal, precise, and patient.

Why choose Château Léoville Barton?
