Located in Meursault, the Domaine Henri Germain is one of those discreet yet respected estates that have built a solid reputation solely through the consistent quality of their wines. Founded in the 1970s by Henri Germain, the estate is now run by his son Jean-François Germain, who humbly continues a winemaking practice deeply respectful of the land and time.
The vineyard covers about 7 hectares, spread across several communes of the Côte de Beaune, mainly Meursault, but also Chassagne-Montrachet, Monthelie, and Beaune. The estate produces both whites and reds, always with a philosophy of finesse and balance. The soils are cultivated in a reasoned manner, with mechanical work and respect for natural cycles. Yields are moderate, harvesting is manual, with rigorous sorting in the vineyard.
In the cellar, Jean-François follows a measured and classic approach. Fermentations occur slowly, with indigenous yeasts, and aging takes place in oak barrels (about 20% new wood) for 12 to 18 months. The wines are neither fined nor filtered unless necessary. This low-intervention style aims to let the terroir speak, without makeup or exuberance.
The estate's Meursault wines stand out for their straightness, freshness, and saline length, far from the clichés of buttery richness. These are wines that evolve beautifully in the bottle, gaining complexity and texture over time. The Pinot Noirs (notably from Beaune and Monthelie) combine fresh fruit, fine tannins, and subtlety, in a style that favors drinkability and precision.
The Domaine Henri Germain embodies a calm and rigorous vision of Burgundy, where each vintage is treated with the same care, without seeking demonstration, but with exemplary fidelity to the identity of the climates.
