Sophisticated opulence, balanced finesse, and aromatic depth

Premier Cru Classé of 1855, Château Rieussec, located in Sauternes, embodies the absolute refinement of Bordeaux sweet wines. Established on approximately 80 hectares, this estate combining tradition and innovation is led by Françoise de Lencquesaing, under the technical guidance of Pierre Lurton. It offers wines with a sumptuous texture, freshness driven by the terroir, and exceptional balance.

Terroir & grape varieties

Plots spread over sandy-clay gravel mounds, rich in quartz and flint, with regular morning mists promoting noble rot. The grape varieties consist of Sémillon (≈90%), Sauvignon Blanc (≈7%), and a hint of Muscadelle (≈3%), planted at high density to achieve concentration and purity.

Viticulture & harvest

Manual harvesting in multiple passes, to pick only grapes perfectly affected by Botrytis. Low yields, strict selection, green sorting, and micro-parcel rigor ensure the superior quality of the grapes.

Vinification & aging

  • Fermentation in barrels or old vats, with controlled fermentation duration.

  • Aging for 18 to 24 months in new French barrels (≈60%), sometimes complemented by stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness.

  • Possible successive blends to adjust the final profile of the wine.

Style & iconic cuvée

Château Rieussec (Grand Vin): intense golden robe, rich bouquet of honey, candied apricot, orange zest, saffron, delicate smoke. The palate is ample, silky, structured by saline acidity, with a long spicy finish. Estimated aging between 15 and 40 years depending on the vintage.

The second wine, R de Rieussec, offers a fresher and fruitier version, to be enjoyed young while remaining true to the elegance of the estate.
