High terroir, bold winemaking, and innovative Catalan expression
Founded in 1989 in Gratallops, Clos i Terrasses was born from a daring bet: to enhance terraced vineyards of 17 plots on schist, driven by Daphne Glorian, encouraged by René Barbier and Álvaro Palacios. Today, the estate spans 25 ha at 450 m altitude, managed with certified organic and biodynamic farming, revealing powerful, elegant wines with freshness.
Terroir & grape varieties
The vines aged 10 to 27 years grow on steep schist (“llicorella”) soils, on terraces facing northwest. The reds are dominated by Garnacha (≈70–75%), complemented by Syrah (≈20%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (≈5%), while the whites combine Garnacha Blanca, Chenin Blanc, and Viognier.
Viticulture & winemaking
Manual harvesting, parcel sorting, separate fermentations according to grape varieties in stainless steel, concrete, amphorae, or foudres. Long macerations (≈35 days for reds), aging for 14 to 21 months in barrels and conical vats, with partial use of re-used barrels to preserve purity and minerality.
Style & aging potential
The reds express fresh red and black fruits, spices, balsamic herbs, a graphite side, and superb minerality. The whites are floral, fresh, with an elegant and saline texture. The main cuvées promise 10 to 20 years of aging potential, with brilliance from 5 to 7 years.
Iconic cuvées
Clos Erasmus: prestige cuvée, 83% Garnacha and 17% Syrah, signature of the estate.
Laurel: second cuvée, more accessible, similar blend, aging ~21 months.
Laurel Blanc: white aged in foudres, rare and expressive.
