Created in 1991 by the Álvarez family, already owners of Vega Sicilia, Alión was born from a strong desire: to produce a 100% Tempranillo wine from the Ribera del Duero, but in a more contemporary style than its illustrious predecessor. From the start, the estate was designed as an autonomous entity, with its own winery, its own vineyards, and a dedicated team, while benefiting from the expertise of the Tempos Vega Sicilia group.


The vineyard extends over about a hundred hectares around Padilla de Duero, a few kilometers from Valbuena. The majority of the plots are managed according to sustainable principles, with precise work on the soils and yields.


Philosophy & Winemaking


The Alión project is based on a clear vision: to enhance the Tempranillo of the Ribera in a modern, dense, and elegant register. The winemaking relies on precise extraction and impeccable hygiene, with fermentations in stainless steel tanks, followed by aging in new French oak barrels for 12 to 14 months. The wine is then refined in the bottle for several years before being marketed.


The hand of Gonzalo Iturriaga, the group's technical director, is evident in the search for a subtle balance between fruit generosity, finesse of the tannic grain, and mineral length.


Flagship Cuvée




  • Alión: the only cuvée produced, it embodies the modernity of the Vega Sicilia style. Powerful yet harmonious, this cuvée reveals the great terroirs of the Ribera with pure fruit, a caressing texture, and remarkable aging potential.




Wine Style



Alión wine is distinguished by its controlled intensity, its silky texture, and its deep aromas of black cherry, cocoa, sweet spices, and graphite. Its perfectly integrated aging gives it a noble structure, while the natural freshness of the Tempranillo ensures balance and elegance. A wine that charms both in its youth and after 10 to 15 years of aging.
