A Leading Estate of Chianti Classico
Nestled in the heart of the Chianti Classico hills, between Florence and Siena, Isole e Olena is a key reference for great Tuscan wines. Bringing together two old family properties ("Isole" and "Olena") since the 1950s, the estate took a decisive turn in 1976 with the arrival of Paolo De Marchi, a legendary figure in contemporary Italian viticulture.
A man of conviction and vision, Paolo De Marchi has shaped a unique style for over 45 years, based on the purity of the fruit, the expression of the terroir, and a Burgundian-inspired precision, while remaining true to the soul of Sangiovese.
An Altitude Terroir, Between Stone and Light
The estate spans approximately 70 hectares of vineyards, between 350 and 500 meters above sea level, on soils composed of galestro, schist, and clay-limestone, which give the wines a natural freshness and a mouthwatering tension. The climate, marked by strong temperature variations between day and night, promotes a slow and balanced maturation, essential for aromatic finesse.
A Unique Style, Between Tuscan Tradition and Modern Precision
At Isole e Olena, Sangiovese is king, but it is interpreted with grace, elegance, and energy. Far from rustic caricatures, the wines offer silky tannins, vibrant aromas of cherry, blond tobacco, fine spices, and a racy structure. Vinification is done by gravity, with indigenous yeasts, delicate aging, and very moderate use of new wood.
Iconic Cuvées
Chianti Classico: A model of balance, depth, and drinkability. Pure Sangiovese in all its nobility.
Cepparello: The iconic cuvée of the estate, a 100% Sangiovese from the best plots, vinified like a grand cru. Elegance, intensity, verticality.
Collezione Privata Cabernet Sauvignon: A Tuscan-style Cabernet, dense, structured, with remarkable extraction finesse.
Vin Santo: Produced in tiny quantities, this rare nectar is a marvel of balance between concentration, complexity, and freshness.
A Philosophy of Precision and Patience
Isole e Olena is above all a quest for authenticity. Rejecting standardization, Paolo De Marchi has always advocated an artisanal approach, respectful of the plant and the long term. Since 2022, the estate is in the hands of the EPI family (also owners of Biondi-Santi), with the ambition to preserve this unique identity while ensuring its continuity.
Why Choose Isole e Olena?
Because their wines embody what Tuscany offers at its most subtle: refined, vibrant, deeply sincere cuvées, capable of aging gracefully and moving lovers of great terroirs.
