Bodegas El Nido is a unique estate, born from a collaboration between Jorge Ordóñez, a major importer and promoter of Spanish wine in the United States, and Chris Ringland, an Australian winemaker renowned for his dense and spectacular Syrahs. Together, since 2002, they aim to demonstrate that the arid region of Jumilla can produce exceptional wines worthy of the greatest international labels, relying on the old vines of Monastrell (Mourvèdre) rooted in poor soils.

The estate's philosophy is clear: controlled power, pure fruit expression, ambitious aging, and a deliberately confidential production. Everything is designed to create deep, sappy reds capable of competing with the world's greatest wines while expressing their Mediterranean origin.

Terroir & winemaking

The vineyard extends over old plots, often ungrafted, planted at 700 meters altitude on stony and limestone soils. The climate is extremely dry, with very low yields, which enhances the natural concentration of the fruit.

The winemaking, carried out in small vats, is based on a drastic selection, gentle but slow extraction, and long aging (up to 24 months) in new French oak barrels. Each cuvée is produced in limited quantities and only in the best vintages.

Iconic cuvées

  • El Nido: iconic cuvée based on 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Monastrell, powerful, spicy, structured, capable of aging for over 20 years.

  • Clio: predominantly Monastrell, with a touch of Cabernet, voluptuous, concentrated, velvety wine, with a more accessible style.

  • El Nido Jumilla: very rare micro-cuvées based on selected old vines.
