Mentioned since the 19th century but long in the shadows, La Mondotte reemerges under the spotlight in the 1990s when Stephan von Neipperg – already owner of Canon La Gaffelière – decides to apply a radical, plot-specific approach focused on the absolute expression of the terroir. La Mondotte thus enters the exclusive circle of the most sought-after wines of Bordeaux.
A suspended terroir, between clay and limestone
Located at the eastern end of the Saint-Émilion plateau, the vineyard rests on steep clay-limestone slopes, ensuring natural drainage and maximum concentration. The limestone subsoil provides a vibrant minerality, while the clay retains freshness and power.
Style: mastered opulence, mineral depth
Blend dominated by Merlot (about 80–85%) complemented by Cabernet Franc, La Mondotte is a wine of exceptional density, with intense black fruit, chiseled tannins, and a chalky finish of fascinating length. Despite its power, it never tips into excess. Balance, refinement, and energy define its identity.
High fashion winemaking
100% manual harvest, rigorous sorting grain by grain. Fermentations in thermo-regulated wooden vats, gentle and precise extractions, followed by 18 to 24 months aging in 100% new barrels, with regular stirring. Every detail is adjusted to enhance the vintage and respect the fruit.
A unique cuvée, an absolute signature
