Founded in the early 1980s by Eugenio Campolmi, Le Macchiole quickly established itself as one of the leading figures in Bolgheri, Tuscany. Today, brilliantly managed by his wife Cinzia Merli, the estate combines a forward-thinking vision, exceptional terroir, and precision winemaking.
Terroir & philosophy
Le Macchiole cultivates about 27 hectares of vineyards in the most qualitative areas of the Via Bolgherese, on clay, sandy, and stony soils, a few kilometers from the Tyrrhenian Sea. The marine influence, constant breezes, and abundant light allow for a slow and balanced ripening, ideal for demanding grape varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, and Sauvignon Blanc.
Committed to organic farming, the estate favors single plots, low intervention, and a unique interpretation of each grape variety, rejecting imposed standards.
Vinification & style
The winemaking is based on rigorous plot selection, manual harvesting, spontaneous fermentations, and tailor-made aging, adapted to each grape variety and vintage. Wood is used sparingly, never in excess. The Le Macchiole style is recognizable by its purity of expression, natural tension, and silent depth.
