Founded in 1902 in Mendoza, Bodega Catena Zapata has established itself as the most influential estate in Argentina. It was Nicolás Catena Zapata who, from the 1980s, transformed the vision of Argentine wine by focusing on modern techniques and especially on high-altitude viticulture. Today, his daughter Laura Catena, a doctor and scientist, continues this quest for excellence by leading the estate with a rigorous and sustainable approach.

Philosophy & Winemaking

The estate combines scientific research, family tradition, and respect for the terroir. Thanks to the work of the Catena Institute of Wine, each plot is studied to reveal its potential. Fermentations are natural, vinifications are plot-specific, and aging is adapted to each grape variety. The focus is on elegance, freshness, structure, and aging potential.

Terroirs & Vineyards

The vineyards extend over several terroirs of Mendoza, with the most prestigious located at very high altitudes, between 900 and 1,500 meters, notably the Adrianna, Nicasia, and Angélica vineyards. These unique conditions allow for the preservation of natural acidity and the expression of great aromatic complexity. The emblematic grape variety remains Malbec, but the estate also excels in Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and experimental projects.

Iconic Wines

  • Nicolás Catena Zapata: The estate's flagship wine, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec.

  • Adrianna Vineyard: Rare plot-specific wines (Malbec, Chardonnay), among the most sought-after in the New World.

  • White Stones & White Bones: Mineral Chardonnays from Adrianna's micro-terroirs.

  • DV Catena: A refined and expressive intermediate range.

  • La Marchigiana: Natural wines inspired by the family's Italian origins.

Wine Style

Catena wines are of great purity, with a straight structure, fine tannins, marked tension, and a faithful expression of the place. The reds combine depth and freshness, while the whites rival the greatest international crus.
