Founded in 1985 in Laguardia, at the heart of Rioja Alavesa, Artadi is one of the most respected estates in Spain. Initially a cooperative, the project quickly became a reference point thanks to the visionary energy of Juan Carlos López de Lacalle, who propelled Artadi to the top by focusing on unique plots and demanding viticulture. In 2015, the estate voluntarily left the Rioja appellation to assert a plot-based and terroir-driven philosophy, similar to the great Burgundy crus.
Terroir & philosophy
Artadi's vines thrive between 400 and 700 meters above sea level, on limestone soils that are poor and perfectly drained, in a temperate continental climate. Each plot is worked organically, without irrigation, with almost obsessive precision. The king grape variety is Tempranillo, but in its purest form: racy, mineral, vibrant.
The philosophy of the estate is based on absolute respect for the place, the identity expression of each cru, and an uncompromising commitment to quality.
Vinification & style
The winemaking is minimally interventionist: indigenous yeasts, gentle macerations, aging in custom French barrels, often used, to never mask the wine. The Artadi style is a rare alliance between depth, freshness, and finesse, where silky texture meets remarkable mineral tension.
Iconic cuvées
Viña El Pisón: mythical plot, absolute purity, complex and masterful – one of the greatest wines of Spain.
Valdeginés: finesse and elegance, with silky tannins and floral freshness.
La Poza de Ballesteros: broader, more earthy, with savory depth.
El Carretil: racy, intense, structured, always balanced.
Artadi Tradición: blended Tempranillo, the accessible signature of the estate.
