Finca Sandoval — The Soul of Modern Manchuela
Located in the Manchuela appellation of southeastern Spain, Finca Sandoval is a rising star in the Spanish wine scene. Founded in the early 2000s, the estate entered a new era in 2019 under the leadership of Ángel and Germán García-Cordero, with winemaker Javier Revert guiding the cellar work.
A Precision-Driven Viticulture
The estate is organically farmed and places strong emphasis on biodiversity, soil health, and authentic terroir expression. Vineyards are planted at high altitudes on poor, limestone-rich soils. The focus is on native and regional grape varieties like Bobal, Garnacha, Moravia Agria, and Monastrell, as well as adapted varieties like Syrah and Touriga Nacional.
Winemaking Approach
The cellar philosophy is low-intervention, artisanal, and terroir-focused:
-
Manual harvest in small crates.
-
Long macerations and native yeast fermentations.
-
Open-top fermenters with manual punch-downs.
-
Malolactic fermentation in barrel or amphora.
-
Aging in a combination of oak barrels, foudres, and amphorae.
-
No fining or filtration, minimal use of sulfur.
Each plot is vinified separately to preserve its character, resulting in precise, vibrant wines.
Key Wines
-
Fundamentalista: old-vine Bobal co-fermented with local varieties, aged in amphora; rustic yet elegant, with deep freshness and energy.
-
Finca Sandoval: the estate’s flagship wine, blending Syrah and Bobal from top plots, aged for complexity and structure.
-
Salia: a more accessible red, blending Syrah and Garnacha; juicy, smooth, and expressive.
-
Aurora: a rare white wine, fresh and mineral, crafted from local grapes.
Wine Style
Finca Sandoval’s wines are marked by freshness, purity, and a natural elegance. The reds have refined tannins, floral and spicy aromatics, and a distinct mineral backbone. They reflect both the soul of the local tradition and the finesse of modern craftsmanship.
A Rising Star in Spanish Wine
With its commitment to native grapes, organic farming, and honest winemaking, Finca Sandoval represents the future of southeastern Spanish viticulture. The estate offers wines of great character, depth, and authenticity—firmly rooted in place, yet modern in spirit.
